KN-COSM-B is battery operated (it uses 3 standard AA batteries, which are provided) the Kidde KN-COSM-B still operates if there is a power outage – for example during a fire at night-time, when you are fast asleep. There is also an in-built battery safeguard that warns you if the device is installed with no battery, so that this little mistake can’t lead to something more serious.
